mail.app and pdf attachments

When sending or receiving a message with a pdf attachment, it always appears within the message window rather than as an icon. Can this be changed?

I don't use it, so I'm not vouching for it, but you can look into Mail Attachments Iconizer. I'm not sure if it'll let you selectively turn inline attachments into icons, though. It might be all or nothing.
