I don't understand exactly what you're trying to do.
Are you talking about loading Activesync? That's a Windows program which won't work on the Mac. A few people got it to work in Virtual PC, but I haven't been able to. There are third-party sync utilities like The Missing Sync and Pocket Mac.

I would like to install Activesync 4.1 on Virtual PC and run on Windows XP with my PDA phone, due to my PDA use Microsoft Mobile 5 system, it always show that has problem to install; as my experience I was use HP PDA with Microsoft Mobile 2003 Pocket PC to install in my Virtual PC 7.0 no problem.
I need to use Windows system, because there are many software which I use for Windows system before. |

What are the errors exactly?
AS should install, it just probably won't make a USB connection. It may take hours for the AS installation to finish; it will hang around 50% through for an hour or two, just leave it running.

After I install ActiveSync 4.1 then insert USB to connect my hand phone, the screen show that "a problem occured during install software...", stop the installation, then I enter to system-> driver manager, it show a "?" on network device, it seems they install one driver on network device, but can not use it.
I ask the service center of my phone company, they said that it will use this as another network device, so, I need to go to Vertial PC to switch correct one, however, I try all possibility to change the network option on Virtual PC, still the same problem. Due to my phone company not familiarize Mac system, I can not get any help from them. |

I've never heard of that error. I would start by removing AS completely, rebooting the VPC, and trying the install again. Or do you have a clean backup of the VPC file from before you tried to install AS? What version of Windows are you using in VPC, and does it have all the current service packs and updates?

That's the same error I get. Try posting about this on pdaphonehome.com and see if anyone has something new. I doubt you'll ever make it work; very few people ever have, and it was only with the old versions of AS (which don't support WM5).
My advice? Buy a $50 Windows computer just for this.

You can download the updates manually and then apply them. I don't have the link handy, but it is there on the MS site.

Mobile 5 & VPC 7.02, XP
Installed Active Sync 4.1
Connected iPAQ 2795 Devise manager shows error code 10 (points to driver error). There are no updated drivers. HP says since they don't support VPC they have no advice. Pocket Mac not yet Mobile 5 compatible but that still won't solve downloading and syncing applications. (this worked so well with my old iPAQ) help |

There are no solutions to this specific need.
If you want to sync, you might want to consider a hosted Exchange service. If the issue is installing applications, then you can run the installer in VPC without connecting the PDA. It will unpack the application cabinet (.cab) files into \program files\microsoft activesync (usually). You can then copy the .cab file to your device via a card and run it, where it will install. Sometimes a poorly-written program will put the files elswhere. Do a search for ".cab" and you'll find it. Also you can use the native Mac utilities like Finder to copy the file to a card. You only need windows in order to run the installer package.

Guest PC 1.8 solves this issue I believe!
Lismore Systems have released Guest PC 1.8 with USB support.
I installed this yesterday with Windows 2000 and then instelled Outlook 2002 and Activesync 4.1 and bingo! My Axim x51v WM5 synced with outlook and more importantly I was able to install software from the desktop without the need for .cab file shenanigans. But, beware, it is a little slower than VPC, and make sure you let everything install in order, as it takes ages to finish. Syncing is sluggish but works, I didn't get time to test it thoroughly as I didn't have time to setup my exchange servers and myriad of pop3 accounts but all my contacts appeared in outlook. I couldn't get browse device to work, but for file transfers on a mac, use Softtick's Card Export II, now supports read and write on x51v. I had an issue installing Win2k SP3.. Corrupt msgina.dll file. This was fixed by downloading SP4 on a pc at work, winzip extracting the files and copying to the mac. Close down guest pc and find the data file in documents. Double clicking the pc file will mount the pc hard drive on the mac. Copy the new msgina.dll file into /widows/winnt/system32 and you are up and running. Lots of testing to do but at least now you can install non .cab files and hopefully any ROM updates if they occur. I did all this on an Emac, 1ghz, 1Gb ram, 15gb free space. I also installed XP ok but had no time to check it. It seemed slow. Will update on compatibility with Nokia PC Suite and Garmin later. |

Peterluxford - nice description of Guest PC and the installation - I did have a quick question in that I do not have access to a PC, is there a way to extract msgina.dll file from a the Service Pack SP4 when downloaded on a MAC??? I just thought that I would ask to see if this was at all possible? Is that the only file that one would need replace from the new service pack?
Apologies for the many questions, I am simply fairly unfamiliar with the Windows world; however, I would love to be able to sync my laptop with my work provided iPaq Cheers... |

I am not sure you can extract it on the mac. Message me an email address and I will send you the one from my system that works.
