I think their music (i.e., Neil Finn) got even better (more mature?) after they moved to L.A. (and later U.K.?): Crowded House -- "Better Be Home Soon/I Feel Possessed" (live '89) Neil Finn -- "Driving Me Mad" (acoustic) |

Not exactly "Nick Drake" but, you'd probably like Fiction Family (i.e., Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek plus Jon Foreman of Switchfoot). [This YouTube vid doesn't really represent what the album sounds like (use the iTunes url to preview those tracks). In the YouTube vid, the song "Elements Combined" doesn't actually start until after 1 minute.] Edit: actually, that Neil Finn -- "Driving Me Mad" (acoustic) tune in my last post is more Nick Drake-ish. Here's an interesting combination: Jeff Beck & Imogen Heap doing a bluesy/reggae ballad.

I have my iTunes on throughout the day, so when I get in the car, there's nothing sweeter than talk radio. Doesn't matter what the topic is(news, sports, etc). It can even lead to laughing out loud. Also, I started calling in when I hear a topic that's interesting and next thing I know I'm home.

Oooh, yeah! Do I see forced retirement for a lot of young pop artists? ![]() .

If any of you really like old country, and hate how new country is just pop music, here is a band that I think progressed how country music should have progressed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ELMxOAeb5g I have two of their albums and saw them live, but heard they recently broke up...?

Here's some oddball suggestions that I like. I have rather varied tastes, generally trending towards darker sounds. This assortment is mostly electronic based, with a couple exceptions. Since Photek likes Röyksopp, I believe he'll like synthpop just fine. The others are great bands in their own right, if you can handle the genre. Aggrotech and Powernoise are probably aquired tastes.
The rest I think anyone should be able to appreciate at some level.Pzychobitch(Synthpop, Germany; very dancey, don't let the name scare you) Oomph! (Industrial-Rock, Germany) Covenant (synthpop, German again, I think) And One (SynthPop, Germany) Switchblade Symphony (Darkwave, US) Phantom Vision (Goth-rock, Portugal) OhGr (EBM?, Canada/US) X-Fusion (aggrotech, Germany; a bit more harsh than the others) Terrorfakt (powernoise, US; even harder!) |

Been filling out my Bowie collection since I noticed they were having a sale on his albums in the Aus store. Here's a few of my favourite tracks;
Panic in Detroit (from Aladdin Sane) Cracked Actor (from Aladdin Sane) Moonage Dream (from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars) Suffragette City (from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars) Diamond Dogs (from Diamond Dogs) Life on Mars (from Hunky Dory)

His glam rock days were definitely his best IMO. Did you like Man Who Sold The World? |

Yeah, I liked the album although it's hard to pick a standout track. I never realised the Nirvana version of the title track was a cover. Always nice to hear the original (apart from Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah but that's another story). My favourite Bowie album is still Low, followed by probably Aladdin Sane, Scary Monsters, Diamond Dogs. Still absorbing my latest purchases.

++++++ on that one. Their whole album "Tobacco Road" is amazing! I had listened to their first album and figured they weren't really worth my time, but their last album and the single Winter Takes All (especially "Arkham Escape") has totally changed my opinion. Way up on the list now...

Huh? . . . "Winter"? and "Tobacco Road"? Let's get some chronological perspective. Those two terms together go back a ways: Edgar Winter "Tobacco Road"
