I rather like it, compared to stereotypical metal (which is mostly akin to musical masturbation). Those dregs-like instrumental melodic riffs harken back to Irish/Scottish folk music, which was later adopted into bluegrass and other forms of cowboy-jazz. If only the satanic-sounding "vocals" were removed (ooooh scary), it's fairly high quality music underneath.

Thanks for the tip.

I fully agree with you on the Irish/Scottish folk music influence ... I hadn't picked that up myself but it is pretty obvious.

The vocals also are a let down but thankfully the singer is also a brilliant guitarist and he doesn't sing very loud ...

I marvel at how the band members play with great sync and how laid back they appear to be ... I guess the bass player probably has it the easiest out of the whole band and I confess to liking the music solely on it's overwhelming complexity of riffs.

Glad you enjoyed them

I recommend Conjure One if anyone takes a liking to Electronica.

Also, just realized I've finally broken 1,000 songs: My library sits at 1,205. Probably because I just got a few discographies.

heh, maybe we can enhance your son's education with some Dregs: Steve Morse is composing/performing genius in my book. [gone are the "Clapton is God" days.]

I know we usually don't do more popish stuff, but Life in Technicolor ii is a great song with a very amusing video. I really enjoyed Coldplays last album...

Old Man's Beard

I first heard Old Mans Beard on CBC when they played Tofino I really liked the track and dug some more of their stuff off the cbc and off their myspace page.

I really like the track Dawson Bound as well. The vocals on this track really seem to remind me of Brandon Boyd (Incubus) and that actually goes for the album as well. It is kind of an interesting mix of Incubus, Bedouin Soundclash, and the Fleet Foxes. The album is really good and totally catches the spirit of BC rock. I think this is a pretty awesome start for these guys from BC and I hope this isn't the last we hear from them. If you like folk rock in the vein of the new folk revival that is happening then totally dig these guys, especially if you have dug the Fleet Foxes or Mumford & Sons

More obscure-ish stuff. I'm sure I've recommended them here before, but Sigur Ros is good. More specifically, ( ) is good. I'd recommend listening to the album straight through for the proper experience. It's a musical thrill ride.

Titanic - Shovel the Coal

Heavy metal, very heavy. Not death but a good listen.

"Shovel the coal, every man below
Keep those fires fed!
Shovel the coal, sweatin' drops of blood
Full Steam Ahead!"

Been listening to some Quincy Jones this last week. His last album before he went into full time producing was called "Sounds", it's pretty good so far. He recorded it before he produced Michael Jacksons "Off the Wall", and you can see some similarities for sure.

I have the Brothers Johnson excellent "Right On Time" lp which was produced by QJ ...

Potentially viewed as something of a warm-up for Quincy Jones before producing Michael Jackson's wildly successful Off the Wall and Thriller albums, the Brothers Johnson's first two releases spawned hits like "I'll Be Good to You" and brought George and Louis Johnson to a mass audience of their own.

I remember when "Off The Wall" was first released, I really loved the production job QJ did.

I may not be the most ardent fan but I gotta admit that when I clicked on the Apple website link recently and saw the fab 4 appear and just standing there against a white background, with long hair, a moustaches & a beard ... I was impressed !
