Hi:
I hope someone can help me. I have an ibook 1.2GHz 768MB DDR SDRAM I am using Finalcut Pro using an Seagate 300gig external hard drive to store all of my media files. The problem is that when I try to capture my footage. The rainbow wheel keeps spinning and nothing happens. I tried to move FCP to the external hard drive root directory but it said that there was a string? that was too long. I thought that maybe the the external hardrive spindle speed was too slow. I am clueless. I have to complete this project and my internal harddrive is to small. Please help

First, you need to figure out whether the problem is related to the external or if you simply can't capture. Try shutting down the computer entirely and disconnecting the external. Boot back up, set your capture scratch location to somewhere on the internal drive, and see if you can capture a couple minutes of footage. If you can, connect the external, change the scratch location, and try again. Any luck?

How is the external drive formatted?
What did you use to copy footage from the external drive to the internal drive? Trevor

As a noobie I am not sure what is meant by external drive formatted. I do have it non journaled. Also I can capture to my internal hard drive with FCP on the the internal root directory. But as I mentioned before. I tried to move FCP to the external root drive with no luck. I just went to edit>copy>and then paste in the external root directory. Was that the right way to do it? I hope that answers the question.
