Hey all!
Ive recently bought myself a brand spanking new eMac (1.42mhz, 256mb, 80gb). I am a graphics student and usually have alot of design apps open at the same time. Althought the mac is more powerful to the PC laptop I am used to I have found it's begining to chuck along on its small amout of memory. Ive been looking at buying a 512mb memory upgrade but have recently found a 1gb (1GB DDR 333MHz, PC2700, 2.5V, Non-Parity, Non-ECC, 184-pin, Cas Latency 2.5) memory at an amazingly low price. However does the eMac support 1gb alone in one slot (or does it only support 512mb + 512mb). I wait eagerly to your responces! Chris P.S. Hi guys, I'm not only "new" to macs but to the forums

Officially from Apple, that eMac only supports PC2700 DIMMs up to 512MB, however anecdotal evidence is excellent that 1 GB PC 2700 DIMMs work just fine.

Something to know about Macs and RAM: you can't use the cheap stuff. You just can't. If you put it in, you're lucky if the machine even boots. If it does, you'll probably start experiencing crashes.
You'll want to go to a company like Crucial or Kingston and purchase whatever RAM they recommend for your particular model. Regarding Trevor's comment: because Apple's official specs say you can only use 512 MB DIMMs in the eMac, Crucial and Kingston are only going to recommend those. But if you call one of them and tell them what machine you have, they can probably locate the part # for the 1 GB DIMM of the same type. |
