keychain first aid won't install

I was having trouble with my keychain and thought I'd run keychain first aid. Kept getting error messages, so thought I'd delete it and re-download the app. Went to VersionTracker and downloaded. When I clicked on the subsequent icon to install, it opened Popcorn. I'd had this problem before, and got a (different) app to install using Stuffit. Well, in this case, Stuffit was greyed out and I could not use it. The downloaded file is "keychainfirstaid.dmg.sit" I believe (not at the mac just now). Any ideas on how I can get this to open and install?

Thanks in advance!

Since you haven't mentioned what version of OS X you are using, part of this answer is a guess, but Keychain First Aid has been rolled into Keychain Access, which should already be in your /Applications/Utilities folder. The app you downloaded is probably outdated for your version of OS X.

You can get to Keychain First Aid by launching Keychain Access, and then selecting Keychain First Aid from the Keychain Access pulldown menu.

It sounds like you've got some permissions and/or directory structure problems in that double-clicking the SIT file launches Popcorn. Try dragging the SIT file directly onto StuffIt Expander.

It would be a good idea to boot your OS X install disc and run Disk Utility from the Install menu to repair the drive and permissions. Failing that, consider investing in DiskWarrior, the most important tool you'll ever buy for your Mac, second to OS X itself. This utility solves a plethora of problems.

Thanks, Trevor -- you were spot on! Found it, ran it, and it reported all is well. Thanks again! BTW - running Tiger with all the updates.

Las Vegas -- though I don't often rund disk utility from the CD, I do regularly run it from the computer. As far as the sit file, I think somewhere that popcorn must have been set as the default, will check into that. Thanks for your comments!
