Question Suse/Linux server vs. Panther password?

A non-profit kids computer center I volunteer for just moved their file server to a Suse/Linux Intel box. The helpful person who got it running for the Windows XP clients split before I could ask any questions about the configuration for Mac users. We are able to connect to it via smb://ip.address, but it gives us a username/password error when we try to attach the shared space. The Mac is running Panther and the server is running the latest release of Suse Linux.

If the answer is beyond this group, I'd appreciate the recommendation of a Linux forum that may be friendly to Mac people.

Thanks,

Ric

You should check all the various posts on these forums and articles on the main macosxhints site that deal with what sounds like the same issue with SMB on Windows servers. As I recall, it often has to do with the configuration of the password handling - e.g. encrypted or not.
