no sound in quicktime

just upgraded to the latest quicktime player and have now lost sound.
all other applicaions have sound and i have the all the latest upgrades
but still no sound in quicktime.

any ideas guys

running tiger at the moment on a mac mini

I got that too! A moovie I knew had sound wouldn't play with sound.... i quit quicktime re-opened the movie and the sound was back...! very odd.

I use VLC for everything. It's the best app ever I am pretty sure. Apple should buy it, and make it the standard.

I wouldn't be for Apple buying VLC... Although it does play pretty much eveything under the sun, it also always seems to have rather crappy quality in my experience.
YMMV of course.

Start up garage band (if you have it) then quit, then try your quicktime player to see if sound has been restored.

Garage band seems to resolve many audio issues during its start up process.

Started Garage Band and, as you said, it resolved my audio issues.
