Do you know any good airport card alternatives?
Hi there!
My Mum is looking for a wireless solution for her Homeoffice. A WLAN-Router/AP will be provided by the DSL-provider (not sure which one it will be as of now). Is there an alternative to the "expensive" internal airport card (11Mbit/s) for her iBook G3 (500MHz)? I remember trying the D-Link DWL-122 some 2 years ago or so on a powerbook and it did not work out at all. Has that improved driver-wise? Are there any other products you are working with and which you could recommend? A cheap solution would be more than welcome (some USB-stick?). Thanks for sharing your experiences. |

If you want to use the card in the Airport slot then there's one choice - Apple's. Otherwise it's trial and error. The Airport cards are not that expensive in comparison, and they are 100% graranteed to work, which in my book is worth the (small) extra cost.

You may have some difficulty finding the card. It's been discontinued for a long time. Make sure to check eBay.

I'd stay away from USB wireless. They don't seem to work well with Macs. An Airport card is definitely the simplest way to go. This company has them for a reasonable price.
http://www.macwireless.com/ I've dealt with macwireless before and they seem fine to me. Cheapest wireless to Ethernet would likely be DLink. http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=21 |

Thank you
Thanks a lot! I guess I'll just save myself some potential trouble and go for the Apple card. I was just wondering whether there might be other options. Thanks again!
