Permissions on desktop???

I can not open anything that is on my desktop. Anyone suggest what I do? This is the error I get when I try to access my desktop. Everytime I click on an icon that is on my desktop it disapears. can anyone help??? Where do the folders go that disapeared??

There's a folder in your home directory called Desktop.

Select it, then File-->Get Info and set permissions to 700 (rwx for you, nothing for group and world).
