'Out of Office' function in Mail

Does Mail have this capability? I can't seem to find it if it does! Any help would be appreciated...or does anyone know another way of doing this with a Mac? - I'd like to set up an automated response to email enquiries while I'm away. I'm running a G4 733 10.2.6

Thanks.

Set up a rule:

Preferences -> Rules

A rule like this might work:

If [any] of the following are met:
[account] [insert your mail account here]
Perform the following actions:
[Reply to message] (reply message text)

clicking on the reply message text button brings up a window where you can insert your out of office message.

Thanks Nino! I think that just might do it! I've never looked in that 'rules' thing before...I'll give it a dummy run.

Just a reminder that this would require that Mail is running 24/7. If the app crashes or the computer freezes/looses power, then your autoreply won't be running.

Really test and think about it a lot before letting it lose !

Mailing lists are just one example where this kind of stuff can go wrong in extremely embarassing ways.

Such a rule would also reply to Junk (a big 'no-no!' unless you are after some Guinness record for spam) unless installed to run after Mail's built in Junk rule which is setup out-of-the-box to run last. Junkmatcher deals with the same issue and there is a section on the site that discusses how to run the Junk filter not-last.....

I'm wondering if you meant to link to Guinness World Records. Because as it stands, that's linking to Guinness the beer. And I didn't know they had a records section for spam.

Yeah, I did mean to link to the brewer - actually I'd like to "link" to one of their frothy beauties right now..... but there are numbers to crunch and the student email re my summer course (intro psych) has already started!

Frankly I think the brew a lot more interesting than the records... ;-} And I don't know if they have one for total spam received..... prob'ly have one for total spam eaten.....
