10.1 Random crashes and partial slow-down with 10.3.9

I have installed 10.3.9, Java-Update for 10.3.9 and the security update 2005-004 at this point on my Dual 1.8GHz G5 (2.5 GB of RAM, HD160+160+320+320+60, ATI Radeon 9800Pro) (01/2004). I am running no extensions on the system level or any skins/enhancers, no hidden features in the Finder or so turned on. The only system-wide app is Suitcase X1. On my machine Safari unexpectedly quits, Java behaves slow and extremely unstable, using [Apple][Tab] for program-switching sometimes does not work, the dock only partially disappears, although I have 10 apps open only 4 show up in the force-quit dialogue-box and crashed apps offer me to send a report but the window cannot be clicked. Illustrator crashes consistenly (but did so before as well, I think since 10.3.5 or so) and Virtual PC (latest version) is having severe problems. A whole bunch of things that popped up after the upgrade. I wish I had never upgraded… Well 48 hours or so until Tiger - can't wait.

You should try the standard troubleshooting suggestions:

http://forums.osxfaq.com/viewtopic.php?t=7269
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html

In particular, be sure to do both permission repair and filesystem repair.

And be sure to try logging in as a different user to see if the problem exists there. (Create a new user via the Accounts preference panel if you only have the one user account so far.)

Unresponsive update

Updated last week to 10.3.9. Everything else seems ok, but Safari - the application I use the most - seems less responsive. Tabbed browsing seems broken - I can't use the keyboard shortcut (command-shift-arrowkey) to switch tabs while a page is loading now - a problem i didn't have before, and page loading just seems to take longer now. Maybe I'm just imagining it, but has anyone else found this?
