There's some comments here .
Those that do not only deal with the ethical aspects of the whole story (i.e. those that even tried to use it) do not rate the thing very well...

cheers, pink

Is it actually out? Their page wont load right now. I heard about CherryOS months ago when they first said it was ready... then they said they were going to wait a few months... then a few months more. It seemed like it was just a ploy to get people to stress test their streaming video codec/server.

Cherry OS?

Okay, so I'm in class last night (I go to night school for IT) and my buddy Carl whips out his Dell D600 and proceeds to boot it into Mac OS X. As I'm sitting there laughing hysterically... I pull out my PowerBook and fire up VPC and boot into XP (of course, we're both running in full-screen). It wasn't long before we had a crowd... A Powerbook running XP and a Dell running Mac OS X.

Anyway... he downloaded this program called CherryOS, which is a PowerPC emulator for X86. Surprisingly it works pretty good. There's still some networking bugs, but it works.

The best part about the whole thing is that Carl is a die-hard Windows user, but after only a day or two using OSX, he admits he's really starting to like it.

CherryOS appears to be an illicit repackaging of GNU-licensed freeware emulator PearPC.

Interesting. I have heard of PearPC, but this was the first I'd seen CherryOS.

My girlfriend has been using PearPC on her laptop to play around for a while. It's extremely slow (slower than Windows in VPC), but does work pretty well, even the networking.

My buddy did some disassembly on the code... it's defintiely a PearPC ripoff. Oh well, he's now running PearPC using his OSX build from CherryOS.
