Cool TV Tuner and Video Games

I have a beautiful 20inch imac g5 and i was wondering if anyone knew of a good tv tuner card with capture and if any of them where ideal for video games. The display is better than my tv and i would love to use it as such. Thankyou

The EyeTV WONDER USB 2.0
http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file...8023c6d2eef433
is reasonably priced at $149 and is supposed to be good for gaming. I have not used one myself, but maybe somebody else here has and can varify their claims of nominal latency during live playback.

If you are trying to capture video game footage, there is an application I know for the PC side called FRAPS, and it will capture whatever displays on your screen into desired video format (.mpeg, etc). However, I do not know if there is a mac version of this app. You may want to check it out and see if there is anything like it for the mac. A lot of video game sites use this app to record actual game play video demos.

There is Ambrosia's software called Snapz Pro X 2.0. It looks very promising and ambrosia sure is a good software company for mac.

The EyeTV (EyeTV USB) and the EyeTV 200 have a noticable delay and are NOT good for games (their tech specs state this). The EyeTV WONDER USB 2.0 is said to have no noticable delay and is supposed to be good for games. I have not tried either...

Well...I haven't been able to use my TV Wonder USB 2.0 in MacOSX yet, however...when I had it working on my PC...It had a good amount of delay. Enough to make any FPS or similar type of game unplayable in my opinion.

How fast is your PC? Were you recording or compressing the video in any way?

Talk to El Gato if you want to use your TV WONDER USB on the Mac... or try their latest update to their software.

Who knows, maybe it will work.

Who knows, maybe it will work.

I was using it on a Athlon XP 1800...no recording or timeshifting enabled. It was ok...just a slight delay that I wouldn't be able to deal with in a fast paced shooter.

As far as using Elgato's software w/a PC ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0...I contacted Elgato about doing that very thing. I don't think it's right for me to use their software without compensation...so I asked if they had any possibility of allowing a person to just purchase their software. (If you install their software and try to use a PC version of the TV Wonder or any USB TV Wonder for that matter...it asks for a registration code) This is the response I received from them:

Hi James-

Thanks for your interest in Elgato Products, and congratulations on your switch to the Mac.

We have had several customers write to us asking for software to work with their ATIWonder for the PC. Unfortunately, at this time, we are not offering individual licenses for PC Wonders. We are, however, actively pursuing this with ATI so that we may serve people such as you.

Please check back with us in a few weeks for an update.

Regards,
Matteen M.
Elgato Systems

So maybe it will be possible soon...just not now.
