Internet sharing issue between X and XP over a wirless connection

I am running XP and Panther and I am having trouble with my internet sharing. The XP box is connected to the internet through a wired LAN connection and is connected to the Mac through a wireless connection. The two machines communicate perfectly and can share files. However despite having internet sharing enabled on the PC I can not access the net on the Mac. I think it is something simple but I can’t find out what is wrong, although I am pretty sure it is on the XP side. Any help will save me from pulling out all my hair. Cheers.

Check to see if you've got the internet connection without the DNS. On your Mac, from terminal, enter 'traceroute apple.com'. If you only get asterisks, try entering 'traceroute 17.254.3.183' (IP address of apple.com). If this works, locate the DNS addresses on your PC's connection and copy them into your Mac's Network preferences.

I'm having a similar problem. I have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on my Windows XP Home computer. The windows computer is connected tomy dial-up connection. File sharing is fine between my PC and my Mac OS 10.3 over a Linksys router with all the default settings.

In Network Status on my Mac, it says I'm connected to the internet and have the IP address with a green light.

But, I can't access any web sites. I've tried pings, traceroute, etc with no luck, just errors.

What am I missing here???

Also, I can ping both computers fine and can swap files, etc.

Thanks.

Ok, correction... I can share files, but for some reason, when i do a ping of each computer, it times out.

I can access the router's settings through the address: http://192.168.1.1

Then I go to the DHCP Clients table, and my computers have the IP addresses of:

Windows: 192.168.1.100
iBook: 192.168.1.101

Again, I can still share files and access folders, but why wouldn't I be able to ping each computer? Very strange. I'm using Terminal to ping the XP machine, and Command Prompt to ping the iBook. Obviously this is where my Internet Connection sharing problem is occurring. My Firewall is turned off on both computers. What's the deal? Any help is appreciated!

I have tried the traceroute. I get host unknown when I type apple.com and get the asterisks when I type in the ip. Any more ideas?

Thanks.
