ScanSnap S500 use in Mac Parallels?

I just bought the s500 for use on Mac Parallels inside the XP Pro os. I didn't think there would be a problem. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting them to work together. The s500 works great on my PC and I was able to download the Mac drivers from Fujitsu's site and substitute with english as described by izibo for OSX. Works well for simple scan to pdf. However, I'd like to be able to use Acrobat and the searchable cataloging software bundled with the S500 for PC's.

Does anybody know how to make the S500 work on a Mac, within Parallels??

Fujitsu fi-5120c / Scan question

I would like to purchase the 5120c but the ScanTango web site says to make sure that its a hardware version of A4 or newer. The problem is, I can't find anyone who can tell me what hardware version I am buying. Can someone make a recommendation?

Also I'm wondering if using ScanTango is the only way to make this scanner work or will the other Japanese driver I've been reading about here will work as well? Thanks for your help.

Help!

I would appreciate your help.

My ScanSnap 5110 scanner was working fine this morning on my G5 dual processor (pre-Intel). When I restarted the computer this afternoon, an error message says, "ScanSnap is being used by another user or program. If you switched the user currently logged on, data transfer from ScanSnap may not be completed successfully"

Despite many interventions, the error still appears :-(

I am the only user and logged out and logged back in.
Of course I rebooted the G5 several times with the scanner on, off, plugged, unplugged.
I unplugged both the USB and power cables and replugged into the other USB port.
I uninstalled the software and reinstalled the version from Fujitsu's website.
The Fujitsu tech did not know and said he would escalate my issue.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I have a Postcript laser printer Samsung b/w (ML3051ND), it's duplex and print usually well, then I bought the scanner Fujitsu ScanSnap S500M (only for mac!) fast and duplex !
But..
As I tried to print a ScanSnap pdf files with my Samsung I only had a reverse printing!!!
The white where I need the black and the black where I need the white!!
A lot of toner wasted! Both my PowerMac g4 1,25 and mac mini g4 in the network print this way.
This happen only in my macs not in my father macBook nor in other pcs, and it' happens only with the Fujitsu ScanSnap S500M's pdf files!
With command+i I see the difference with the other pdf files, in the ScanSnap's ones the creator is ScanSnap Manager and the code software is Mac Os x 10.4.10 Quartz PDFContext.

I re installed the software of both printer and scanner I repaired the privileges
nothing to do.
After reading this forum I tried to install the japanese version but is not possible...

What can I do?
Thankyou if you can help me

  1. Download the English and Japanese versions of the ScanSnap software from Fujitsu (be sure to download the correct version for your Mac, Intel or PPC).
  2. Mount the Japenese disk image (V20L22.dmg) and install (just keep clicking the blue button on the right hand side to advance the installation).
  3. After installation, I recommend unmounting the Japanese image to avoid confusion later on.
  4. Mount the English disk image (V20L20.dmg) but do NOT install.
  5. Open the disk image, you should see a file named "ScanSnap_V20L11" or "ScanSnap_V20L11.pkg".
  6. Control-Click on the image (right-click) and select "Show Package Contents".
  7. Open the "Contents" folder and open the "Resources" folder.
  8. You should see a file called "ScanSnap_V20L11.pax.gz" Double-click on this file.
  9. After it has unarchived the file, a ScanSnap folder should now appear on your desktop. Open it.
  10. In this folder, you should see the "ScanSnap Manager" which shows the WHITE version of the scanner. Control-Click on the application and select "Show Package Contents".
  11. Open the "Contents" folder and open the "Resources" folder.
  12. You should see a folder called "English.lproj". Copy this folder to a safe place (like your desktop).
  13. At this point, it may be best to close all the windows that you have opened to avoid clutter and confusion!
  14. Go to your Application folder. Find the ScanSnap folder there and open it.
  15. In this folder, you should see the "ScanSnap Manager" which shows the BLACK version of the scanner. This is the Japenese version that we need to change. Control-Click on the application and select "Show Package Contents".
  16. Open the "Contents" folder and open the "Resources" folder.
  17. Copy the "English.lproj" that you just extracted to this folder.
  18. Voila! You should now have support for multiple Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners with English localization!

I have just tried this 'trick' using the newest driver from the japanese driver (2.1 L20) with the Fujitsu ScanSnap 5110EOX2. This driver works great for scanning! But when I try to copy the English.lproj file from the latest driver from the Fujitsu US site (2.0 L11) I get an error when trying to open the ScanSnap.app.

"Initialization failed!
System Error Occured!
Error Code: ffffd530"

Anyone been able to get the latest version of the Japanese driver (works with Leopard!) to use the English localization files?

Thanks,

-Greg

Thanks Greg and you forerunners who have posted solutions to using our PC ScanSnap on our Macs. I too tried the steps suggest by izibo and gpyles. Got the software installed and can run my PC ScanSnap on my iMac. Do I misunderstand about changing the Japanese to English language?? I still have see only Japanese directions on the screens.
Appreciate any clarification or help.
Thanks

Cool

I have just been trying to update my driver for Leopard using above instructions. I have a ScanSnap fi-5110EOX on a MacBook.

However, I have not managed to get this working (despite having succeeded in the past on Tiger). Versions of Japanese/English installers used were V21L20 (Japanese) and V20L11 (English). The software fires up but then I get a missing window error when I select settings and the program crashes.

Can anyone confirm having got the latest Japanese ScanSnap Manager software working under Leopard with a ScanSnap fi-5110EOX. If so, how did you do it?

Thanks

OK. I think I have answered my own question and that of dciscool. First up, I was using the wrong English installer. You need the Japanese version V21L20 and the English version V21L11 (as used by dciscool).

Then follow the instructions in gpyles' post.

To get the new apps working in English:

scan2folder
scan2print
scan2email

... you basically do the same as you did for ScanSnap Manager - ie swapping in the "English.lproj" files from the English package to your Japanese installed software for each of the three new apps.

However, you need to go further still for the three new apps. This is perhaps the step not taken by dciscool. In the installed ScanSnap folder in your applications folder, you will see a folder called "Bundles". The folder contains 6 bundles: Quickmenu.bundle, Scan2Folder.bundle, SSPDF2Image.bundle, STMBundle.bundle, STPBundle.bundle and STPPrint.bundle.

For each of these bundles (bar one which already has an "English.lproj" folder in its resources, for some reason), you need to do the same exercise of swapping in the "English.lproj" folder from the English package to replace the Japanese folder.

Once done, you should have a totally English ScanSnap manager, with the new options, for your ScanSnap fi-5110EOX. All running nicely under Leopard. At least it has worked fine for me for the last 10 minutes! I'll revert if problems arise.

Follow up from last message. All seems to work fine.

Only gripe to report is that it will not seemingly allow you to scan a number of documents as attachments to an email (with Mail). You can only scan document at a time creating a new Mail message each time. This despite the fact that the Scan2Mail program can manage multiple scans when you choose in the ScanSnap settings to create a separate document for every x pages when scanning (for example) a set of 2 page forms (option radio button under file options in ScaSnap settings).

Unless anyone else has spotted something I am missing.....

Happy scanning

More installation

I've been struggling to get my fi-5110EOX2 running under Leopard (10.5) but I've now cracked it. The system should work for both fi-5110EOX and fi-5110EOX2, so I thought I'd post my take (and adjustments) on the excellent wisdom set out earlier in the thread.

1. Install the Japanese version (ScanSnap_V21L20.dmg)
2. Mount the English version (ScanSnap_V21L11.dmg) and copy package "ScanSnap_V21L11" to Desktop.
3. Ctrl click on "ScanSnap_V21L11" and "Show Package Contents". Navigate into "Contents" folder, double click on "Archive.pax.gz". A new folder called "ScanSnap" will appear (in the "Contents" folder). Open this "ScanSnap" folder. Keep this window open.
5. Navigate to the "Applications" folder of your hard drive. Open the "ScanSnap" folder there (which belongs to the Japanese version (ScanSnap_V21L20).
6. In the "ScanSnap" folder of the English version (ScanSnap_V21L11), "Show Package Contents" for "ScanSnap Manager" and navigate into Contents>Resources. You will find a folder called "English.lproj". Copy this folder into the corresponding "ScanSnap Manager">Contents>Resources location in the installed "ScanSnap" folder of the Japanese version (ScanSnap_V21L20).
7. In the "ScanSnap" folder of the English version (ScanSnap_V21L11), there is a folder called "Bundles". For each of the bundles therein, "Show Package Contents" and navigate through Contents>Resources until you find the "English.lproj" folder. Copy this "English.lproj" folder into the corresponding bundle of the Japanese version (which will be located on your hard drive in Applications/ScanSnap/Bundles.

To automate this process for future installs, I've created an installation package that installs the English localisation of ScanSnap Manager V21L20. If you want me to upload it somewhere, just PM me.

All the best,

I would also be happy to host a download

I would also be happy to post your solution with a disclaimer on a public folder that I have. Just let me know if that would be possible, as I would like to take advantage of your efforts and would be happy to help others do the same.

I followed the instructions here and have my Scansnap 510 working with my Mac. It's great!

What options exist for OCR so that I can index my PDFs? I don't really care about reproducing the document formatting or converting to other document formats. I just want decent OCR so that I can search through my scanned documents via Spotlight.

Looking at the pricing Adobe Acrobat Pro, ReadIris, OmniPage, etc. it seems like any one of these packages would cost nearly as much as the Mac version of the Scansnap.

ScanTango - latest info

My company is the developer of ScanTango and just wanted to let the forum know that we continue to add support for each and every ScanSnap scanner - PC or Mac - that Fujitsu creates. Our current version (2.4.5 as of 1 May 2008) supports the following under Mac OS 10.4.x and 10.5.x:

5110C (var version)
5110EOX (labeled as PC version)
5110EOXM (labeled as Mac version)
S500 (labeled as PC version)
S500M (labeled as Mac version)
S510 (labeled as PC version)
S510M (labeled as Mac version)

We also support:

4120/4220C
5120/5220C
4010C
5015C
60F

We also support the following portable sheetfed scanners:

DocketPORT 465 (simplex
DocketPORT 485 (duplex)

For OCR, I use and recommend ReadIRIS for PDF documents under 50 pages. They can take our scanned PDF files, OCR them, and output text-behind-image PDFs that are searchable.

As we have been for over 20 years, we are committed to supporting document scanning on the Mac and will continue to enhance both our Optix (multiuser) and ScanTango (single user) products.

Does this work the same if V22L11 is used for the english version? V21L11 is no longer available from the site, and I can't seem to get it to work with V22L11. Anyone got a spare copy of V21L11 they wouldn't mind sharing?

Newest Japanese drivers versions don't English-fy as well

I use the Scansnap fi-5110EOX2

I got ScanSnap_V21L20 (Japanese)
I got ScanSnap_V22L11 (English)

On my Leopard install, on a Rev A MacBook Pro.

I was previously using an English-fied version of the 2.0.10.1011 driver. But decided to upgrade... for no good reason really. The previous driver was working well.

I have tried to English-fy the newest Japanese software, by copying the english.lproj files from all the corresponding English software (applications, and bundles) to the Japanese software. But the result is not good.

I think the English version supports Profiles, while AFAIK the Japanese one doesn't. Also, the "Apply" button in the Scansnap settings is not in the same place as on the Japanese version, so changes aren't saved.

So, for me, I could go back to using the previous English software. But instead, I now choose to just use the Japanese one. I've got screenshots of the English settings, and the corresponding settings even in Japanese text is quite straight forward. There'r some windows which are new (e.g. some relating to the carrier sheet, and a checkbox which wasn't in the old version). But so far, the scanning still works. So... shrug.

1. Install the Japanese version (ScanSnap_V21L20.dmg)

When I try to install the Japanese version for Intel CPU Mac 10.4, I get an error that says "There is nothing to install." I have an EOX2 and have had no luck whatsoever so far. Any ideas or suggestions? I am gettng a bit desperate!

I'm using ScanSnap 2.1.11.2008 (universal, english) and it works great on my macbook pro.

As for ReadIris, it is a complete piece of trash. I spent $129 on the download in December and it does not work. No response from repeated email and phone calls to company. Hard to believe that Craig can recommend this software.
