File Synchronization
I'm looking for a utility to synchronize various files between an OS/9 desktop machine and an OS/X iBook.
Any recommendations?

I tried them all in OS X and all the apps available for OS X are more or less pretty good - albeit sometimes a little falky. My personal favorite for OS X (also available for OS 9) is Trieder's Tri-Backup. I personally have found that using the good ol' unix utility called rsync is the most accurate and reliable. Don't think that will help you though with an OS 9 system in the mix. Possibly though - use rsync on the OS X system to sync the machines. Give Tri-Backup a try - but be prepared for some failures and mysterious "not copied" issues at times.

Also, check out these related threads (although they are more oriented to OS X only):

I like SynX, which is now being developed again. I also like File Synchronization.
Both work very nicely. File Synchronization has come a long way since I first tried it...I switched to SynX because I could use cron to schedule backups/synchroniztions. I think that now File Synchronization might have something like that now. Others here really like rsyncx and psyncx. I almost tried one of these, but I think it wanted me to install a package, and I don't like to install via those. |
