This usually means that the .dmg file is corrupted.

There seems to be a problem with downloading some dmgs in Safari that results in the dmg having no mountable file system. Usually if the progress bar in the Downloads window does not appear until *after* the dmg has been downloaded (flashes briefly, then disappears), it's an indicator you've gotten a bad download and will get this error when trying to mount the disk image.
In these cases, I usually copy the url to Deep Vacuum and download the dmg there using wget; the resulting disk image is fine. Not sure if you can just use curl from the command line to get around this problem. Also not sure if trying in a different browser will solve the corruption problem. So probably only the copies on your disk are bad. Try downloading them again using a different method, and you may end up with a usable file. |

Have you use the DD command to create the disk image? Mac OS X Panther is an older version. I would recommend you to upgrade your operating system first since there are several new features available in newer version of Mac OS X. Personally, I am waiting for the release of mac OSX 10.7 Lion. Anyways, there are several conditions that can cause corruption in the Mac OSX file systems including Viruses, corrupt file system and file system volumes, header corruption and many more. its recommended to use Macintosh Data Recovery Software. You may visit http://www.nomountablefilesystems.com to download the software. |

Hi, I have a similar problem. I have a dmg of 5,45 Gb that contains an iPhoto library. When I try to open it the message is "not recognized"
Original, it is a sparsimage created with Snow Leopard (i'm trying to recover the file on Lion), following the procedure proposed in a macworld (https://www.macworld.com/article/105...italphoto.html). I believe the image got corrupted during use (like computer shut down with the image open or something like this). I tried using Stellar Phoenix as recommended above but no success. Is there another approach? |
