How do I stop safari being my default browser

i know this probably a no brainer and I must be missing something really obvious but how do I stop safari being my default browser. for instance when I click on an http link in mail it opens safari.

I have started using mozilla (mainly due to the fact it seems to work with more sites and not because of aesthetics or useability, also it has built in email, calendar and simple html editing)

regards

The default browser setting is in Safari.

Go preferences -> general -> default web browser

I sure think so - it makes the huge assumption that you are going to keep Safari. Suppose, in a fit of pique, I trashed it and wanted to switch to Camino say, after the fact? Then what?

Yeah, it is an odd place to put it. Apple appears to be trying to restrict the opposition (Mozilla et al) using its OS. Very M$.

But the default in Safari is a back door to internet config. You can still directly set the default with either DefaultApps or More Internet.

thanx all

Shame that it takes a third party developer to do this. If it wasn't for Apples reletively small loyal user base I think we could start seeing a similar monopoly situation as microshaft has been dealing with.

I think there must be another place to change it because I uninstalled Safari (not to mention IE) long ago but then when I installed Dreamweaver and it came with Opera, suddenly Mail began using Opera and now I have to reinstall Safari to change back. A bit of a pain....

You can also use a few utils to do it.

More Internet being one of them..

Stop Safari from being your default browser

The previous replies seem to be wrong!

Safari does not let you keep IE as default-reverts back...

Go into IE (or the browser you want as default)-and click "Make IE (or whatever)my default browser"

IE ?!@????

What IE? There hasn't been an Internet Explorer for MacOS since Bill Clinton was president.

I'm guessing from the process that srsanford is a Windows user.

I'm guessing from the dates that this thread was indeed originally about IE on OS X.

Why guess about the OP?
'tis a short thread
OP never mentioned IE at all.

I meant that the original thread did indeed become about IE on OS X.
I never mentioned the OP at all ;-)

As for me, I missed that this was a resurrected 2004-vintage thread.

I don't think there was an Internet Explorer for Mac back in 2004 though. In 2000, yeah.

IE was still available for download and use when I was using my old iBook in 2004-2005, as I recall. :/ Not that I used it, but it was there.

It was discontinued in 2003 (only 5 months after Apple released Safari in January), but Microsoft kept it available for 3 more years.
