The WL-167g works with the F5D6050 driver? The WL-167g is supposed to be ralink rt71w chipset, and the F5D6050 is an atmel chipset. Did the WL-167g change chipsets?

Ok I'm a total total novice!! my Mac is an Emac and is running 10.3.9 I've managed to get the usb thing working and when the wireless utility box comes up it sees the modem and I can connect to it and it puts a little green symbol in the box and the status all changes to show the signal and everything, but everytime I try to do something that uses the internet it says there's no connection.

The modem is attached to a PC running XP is it something on the modem settings I have to change?

Please help me I'm getting so frustrated I'm thinking of buying a PC!!!

Thanks H

It will read it as a Ethernet Port Adapter. I had to go to System Preferences>Network>Network Port Configuration and make sure Ethernet Port Adapter is at the top of the list. Hope this works for everyone. I recommend only using Apple products form now on. Silly me for trying to save money.

A miracle!!! After hours of incessant frustration trying to get my F5D7050 to work on my old G3 (OSX 10.4.7), it suddenly happened with the aid of the above mentioned driver. No help from Belkin support who advised another driver from the Ralinktech site, so don't bother calling them.
PS Don't forget to change the broadcastchannel of your accespoint. The software only recognises channels 1-11. Mine was set at 12, so that was another 30 minutes of wondering why all the AP's in my neigbourhood except mine appeared on my sitesurvey.

Belkin F5D7050 (v.3000) works with older Macs running Tiger!

Belkin F5D7050 (v.3000) works with older Macs running Tiger!
I just purchased the Belkin F5D7050 from Caretek for $45 with the hopes of getting 802.11G connectivity for my iMac G4 running Tiger (10.4.7) through USB. The 10.3 drivers on Belkin's website didn't work at all (as of 8/27/06) but I did download the ralinktech driver and it worked right away.

See link: http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm

I downloaded this one:
RT2571W/RT2671 Date Version OS Version Release Note
USB 2006/07/07 Drv1.1.4.0 10.3.X ~ 10.4.X Doc

I hope that this was helpful to anyone who want an alternative to finding an old Apple Airport Card.

Connected ok, but Internet KO.

Firstly, thanks to all for the various contributions. I have an iMac G5 running Tiger 10.4.6. I am using the Belkin USB dongle thingy. I downloaded the drivers from Ralink and have connected to the network. It drops out occasionally and the signal is weak and I believe that has more to do with me being on the fringe of the wireless transmission.

The transmission source in this case is my kids school which is just across the road. It is using a dlink DI-624 wireless router. I am able to get the connection but cannot connect to the internet. I tried to renew the DHCP lease, turned IPv6 off. It is an open network, with WEP. I have the security key, the IP address, the dns. No matter how many things I try, I can't get internet. I am beginning to think it is the dlink router and not my imac. Anyone have any ideas?

v4000 + OSX 10.4

If you have version 4 of this device, or 4000, or v4000, or whatever you wanna call it, and like me you cannot use the Ralink drivers, here's some help:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=26045

With the drivers linked from that page:
http://www.atheros.com/RD/downloads/...ad_ZD1211B.htm
I was able to get the Belkin dongle working with my G4 Powerbook running OSX 10.4. Cheers!

So, because I'm a newbie... will the Belkin work with an Airport or any other type of wireless card? I have a Quicksilver 867 mhz G4 and I will be installing Tiger this weekend, and I just need to know if I can plug the Belkin into a USB port with out needing any other wireless card.

I know this may seem like a stupid question... any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Belkin f5d7050 ver 3000uk

I have had a saga trying to get my sons G4 mac (running OSX 10.3.3) connected to an Airport extreme. I simply could not get it to work! Long story and lost weekends..... nearly ended in divorce.

I now have a belkin dongle and am able to connect to a Belkin wireless router f5d8630-4 ver 1000uk. This works and it is faster than anything else in the house (Tosh laptops running win XP).

My problem is that everytime I boot up the computer I have to unplug my dongle and replug it and re-initiate the connection in the wireless utility. By the way I am using a Ralink driver for the RT2501 USB chipset.

When I called Belkin TechSup they said 'it is a Mac problem' and V a Versa. Anybody got an idea. I am afraid the connection will become loose in time with pulling the dongle in and out

Thanx dob.irl

I bought the v4000 from wally world and had to use the zydas driver with
the edited info.plist file to get it working on a G3 iMac with OSX 10.3.

works -- almost

I have the 4000 version.
I got it working using the zydas driver.

System recognizes as an ethernet port, I'm able to connect to the internet and browse web pages no problem, and I can connect to other macs on my network -- however: the only network shares that seem to be showing up are the Windows File Sharing (SMB) shares.
No apple shared volumes, no iTunes sharing, no shared printers, etc.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it an issue with the zydas driver or their wlan utility? I'm fairly certain my network settings are correct, the thing was working perfectly when I was using the built in ethernet, but when using the Belkin wireless adapter the only thing that works is TCP/IP and not any of the higher-end appleshare frills. Kind of like getting used to watching HD digital TV and then downgrading to basic cable. Workaround anyone?

Cool 10.3.9 - f5d7050 Mystery

I upgraded my G3 ibook os to 10.3.9, installed the Beklin driver for the f5d7050, plugged-in the device and everything worked perfectly ... for one session!

On my next visit to the same wi-fi hotspot, I booted the system, plugged-in the f5d7050, and the computer acted as though it had never heard of it!

I uninstalled, then reinstalled the driver to no effect. I also tried the latest ralink drivers, and still nothing. The two ralink drivers that were installed are present in the extensions folder. I also tried reinstalling the Belkin driver, to no effect.

The computer will not detect the device (I checked the usb ports on the system profiler, as well as the network preferences pane).

I checked the usb port with another device, and the port is functioning normally.

Can anyone suggest anything I can do to allow my ibook to again detect the f5d7050?

I have discovered that Atheros Communications has acquired Zydas and the old links for drivers no longer work. Having poked around a bit, I have found the new location to download Zydas drivers for this chipset...

Good Morning,

As of yet there are no official Belkin drivers for the 7050v4

The v4 is based on a Zydas 1211 chipset

The Zydas drivers for Windows, Mac OS X (10.3 and 10.4) and Linux are available on:

http://www.zydas.com.tw/downloads/download-1211.asp

If you should need further assistance please feel free to contact me again.

Belkin USB v4 works fine with Atheros drivers

Took awhile but I just got it working. I bought the Belkin USB at Frys for $29 (I think). The only way I could tell it used the Zydas chip was from one of the files on the CD.

I downloaded the drivers on the atheros site and after configuring the network adapter (en1) it's working just fine on an old iMac.

The only other thing I had to buy was a powered usb hub since it appears that the device draws more power than the Mac USB can provide.

Total cost about $50 with the powered hub.

Question WLAN in different user accounts - mirrored drive doors running osx 10.4.8

Thank you to all who have done the work to get the belkin fsd7050 v.4000 working on osx. I've been using it successfully for several months now thanks to reading this forum.

My question to all of you out there is, how do I get it to work with different user accounts? I have no problem with it in the main user account, but it doesn't work when I log in under a different account. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm on a g4 tower with mirrored drive doors. 10.4.8

Also, the link to the drivers on the Atheros site does not work, for those who are still looking for the drivers.

Just wanted to thank everyone for this thread. I just got the F5D7050 for my Mom's snow iMac DV and worked with the Ralink drivers. I'll have to see if it'll remember the settings after restarts and stuff, but other than that it works great.

I want to ditto the above post for my imac PowerPC 750. I bought the F5d7050 adapter and downloaded the drivers from the above posts links. I got it working after running into most of what you see above. I had to deinstall and reinstall driver. I am sure I will run into other issues which i will keep you updated with. I lost my ethernet port when lightening struck near my house. This is the best solution for the least pain and expense. Thanks to all of the above threads.

I was able to get the Belkin dongle working with my G4 Powerbook running OSX 10.4. Cheers!

Here is the new link for the driver that recognizes the ZD1211 chipset as used by the Belkin.
ftp://ftp.zyxeltech.de/ZyDAS/ZD1211_...ll_4_5_7_0.dmg

I have installed it in an old ibook with 10.4 osx and it works fine with WEP and PSK/TKIP included. However, I had to manually setup the IP address, subnet mask, and both router and DNS IP's (same one for both, it is the router ip. Belkin is 192.168.2.1 and Linksys as I recall is 192.168.0.1).

BTW, if you have one of these working on a 10.4 osx, can you measure the download speed and post here? I am getting download speed measure of 125 K (ridiculous on comcast isp) and upload speed measure of 1200K! pages load at average speed for a broadband. I haven't tried a streaming newscast or such yet. I use http://speakeasy.net/speedtest to measure
