What a good webhost?

I am really kicking butt with dreamweaver and the next step is to actually get a website. I don't want a free one because I will not have banners or popups on my site. So I am willing to pay. The less the better of course, but I know NOTHING about web hosting. So can you guys help me out? I looked at .mac, but I have no idea what I read. Something about 10 free e-mail accounts.

Have a look at Omnis. They are good, reliable and cheap. You can select what you need and don't need.

I'm a big fan of TotalChoiceHosting.

I'm in the same circumstance as 12Motion--I'm about done with a Dreamweaver site, but I'm looking for a good, free however, host.

I found Host Department--it has no ads or banners, and offers 100 MB of space, however it gives you only a sub domain (free.hostdepartment.com/you)... (as with all free hosting)

Can anyone recommend any other good free hosting with at least 100 MB of space, and absolutely ad free?

Also, I'm wondering how long it takes to upload about a 90 MB site? I've never uploaded before.
(Edit: DSL connection... not sure exact speed or speed/bandwidth of host)

Thanks

This greatly depends on the speed of your connection and the speed of the host, but I guess they will have enough bandwidth.

What's on your site that makes it so large? Most free hosts limit the size of individual files to around 1 meg... you'll have to read their terms of use to find out.

I have several QuickTime movies embedded on my pages... although the HTML documents themselves are only a few KB in size. These movies range from 4 MB to around 20 MB.

So you guys are not fans of .mac I take it? Also I looked at this one host, and it didn't support dreamweaver! Well maybe it did I am not sure, but it said sites supported and dreamweaver wasn't among them. How come?

Hmm I looked over those links you guys gave, but I don't know how big my site is. Is the folder I am keeping all my site stuff in how big my site is? Or does the sizes change when uploaded?

Every web host will support dreamweaver to some extent. It makes standard HTML files and every host should handle them. Some hosts may not support all of the management options in dreamweaver, but they will all work with your HTML files.

The size of the folder where you are keeping your site files should be about the same size as your final site. It may not be the exact size as different systems and hard drive formats measure file sizes slightly differently. But it shouldn't be off by more than a few KB.

I know a few people with .Mac and they like it a lot, but I think your site is just given a .mac subdomain. http://homepage.mac.com/yoursitename or something like that. Also if you are just looking for web hosting and none of the other services provided with .Mac, you can find similar hosting for less money.

I have had excellent results with DirectNic.com

$15 a year for domain
$15 a year for space

My website listed below is on their server.
