Authentication Error Mac to ISA Server
Hello-
I am unable to access a proxy server using Safari running Panther 10.3.4. I am also unable to run Software Update, Norton antivirus update or any FTP client. I can connect to the proxy server with Internet Explorer. I believe the problem is that Internet Explorer has a preference setting for proxies. My technical support staff is unable to resolve the problem. They have little to no MAC experience. Any one else having similar problems? Any ideas for a work around? Thanks. |

Panther has proxy settings in System Preferences -> Network prefpane -> double-click on your Network Status -> Proxies tab.

For the other porblems you stated, such as software update, ftp and NAV updates, what does it tell you ? ... But if your organisation set it so that your have to go through the proxy before being able to connect, this may be oyur issue. Otherwise, for ftp at least, try to ping the server your trying to connect to to make sure ou even see it once your set to got with the proxy that is...

Possible ISA Problem cause
Michael,
I has a similar problem this week, and could not pass through the MS Windows 2000 server using Panther, to check POP3 mail, FTP, etc., while others users could. The only thing I could use was MS Explorer. It turned out that the Server limited Macs passing through to those using DHCP addresses ending in .20 to .30, while the server automatically assigned me to .108. Once this was found, I manually set my Mac to .23 and all was fine. I hope this might help. |

I'm experiencing similar problems, but ...
I'm experiencing similar problems, but the IP fix doesn't apply to me, as machines on both sides of my IP have access.
I used to be able to access the internet using my Powerbook through my company's Microsoft proxy server with no problem. I just had to enter the address, port, and my username/password in the System Preferences Proxy setup. Then, my company "upgraded" it's proxy server. So, now, ONLY Internet Explorer can access the internet. No more Safari. No more Software Update. No iTunes. No Fetch. Nothing. I think it may have something to do with IE prompting me for my DOMAIN while I can only enter my domain\username in the username field of the System Preferences Proxy section. This doesn't seem to work. Basically, I get the 407 error (Proxy Authentication Required). I'm stumped. Any ideas? * |

mac and isa server
there is a serious issue here, with mac compatibility and isa server. It simply doesnt work, i've no idea why, and no one seems to know why it doesn't work.
Even when you input the proxy settings and username and password, it's a complete pain. Hopefully apple can come up with a "downloadable" fix soon, as MS have pulled the plug on MAC OSX internet explorer. hope this helps |

Is there anyway of contacting apple to let them know about this problem? The only way they will fix it is if they are told about it by numerous people.
