hi all, this is porbably a repost, but im desperate at this time, so any help on my problems is greatly appreciated. I am attempting to integrate panther clients with a Win2k LDAP/AD server. I have managed to get the panther clients to authenticate through the server. What i can not get it to do is: mount the user's netowrk drive to the desktop or dock (this works when loggin in as an AD admin) and to administer capabilities to the client, i.e. whta apps can be used and what folders are locked etc.... I tried Mike Bombich's method with no results.... I know very little to nothing about windows/windows server so use of lamen in reference to windows stuff would be helpful...thanks again

Auto Mounting volumes
Just so I am understanding what you would like to happen is the folllowing;
Normal user (not admin) logs into Panther. Upon logging in, panther desktop appears. You would like to have an Windows server volume automatically mount and show on desktop? If the above is correct, the user should be able to manually mount the volume one time. (Use Go/Server command) Once this is done, create an alias to the volume and place the alias in the startup items for the user. |

that is kind of what i meant, the user would not be a local user, but a user that is already in the win2k server, and upon login i want to have ther network home folder mount to the desktop or into the dock, this does happen when log in with administrative accounts, but not the normal users.... i hope that is understandable, i tend not communicate these things to well, thanx for the reply

If your setting up for AD in Panther, if the user has a Home Folder in the AD user profile it should mount as part of the AD binding. Are you using Panther or Jaguar ?

Ok ... So next question : Do you pre-create the computer items on the server or do you just try to bind from Panther and let it create the Computer item ? Also, the is an option in AD users and computers, under the computer item profile, and under the user profile as well to indicate the path to the Home folder... Do you have the path there for their network profile ? Or is it cofigured in the account itself as a network drive mount ? I am asking as if a path to the home folder is set in the Users and Computers on the server, it qualifies it as a roaming profile and should mount automatically on login. Check on the server as well to make sure the profiles Zre meant to be roaming just to make extra sure.
