Hack for ADC 17 CTR & DVI PowerBook?
While I wait for new AI-clad Apple Displays, does anyone know of a way to connect my !@#$! 17" Studio 17 ADC-connected CTR to my DVI PowerBook?
All hacks considered... |

Well, the biggest issue with driving that display is the power requirement, which the Apple DVI to ADC adapter doesn't meet.
I believe the Dr. Bott adapter (using a cube power supply!) will work, but if I were you, I would email or call them first to confirm. http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?code=0111-DVAD |

I believe Apple's DVI to ADC adaptor will do the job:
http://www.apple.com/displays/adapter.html It worked great for a client with a 12" Powerbook and an Apple Cinema Display. Cost is around $100.00 at the US Apple store. |

Apple's adaptor only works with their flat-panel displays. Reading the tech specs, their adaptor puts out 26 Volts and a Max 90 Watts. The tech spec for the monitor in question http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58673 states that it needs 28 Volts and up to 113 Watts of Power. The Dr. Bott page says "The ADC 17" CRT Studio Display is not supported by DVIator as it uses analog signals instead of the digital signals that DVIator expects." The Apple adaptor would certainly have the same problem since it uses DVI as well, even if it could put out enough power. |
