Disconnecting iPod

Just today, I updated to the 4-28-04 version of iPod, and it worked fine, but then I ran into a problem.

I first opened up iPod Updater, then plugged in my iPod (3rd Gen., 15 GB). It recognized, and the update worked fine.

Then, I decided to sync my iPod with iSync (for the 1st time). The sync worked fine, but when it was finished, my iPod just disappeared from my desktop. But I still wanted to update all my songs to it too..

I opened up iTunes, hoping my iPod would come back, but then it just froze (with no iPod button at the bottom).

Meanwhile, my iPod says "Do not disconnect" because it's charging, and I need to disconnect it, but there's no icon on the desktop to eject it.

How do I disconnect it when it says not to, and nothing on the computer recognizes it?

Any help?

Thanks

P.S. The iPod troubleshooting says only restarting if you've ejected it, and still says "do not disconnect".

Shutdown the computer. No signal to the iPod, and the checkmark will appear.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm assuming I can also just restart rather than shut down?

Note: The iPod is charging from the computer; it's just not showing up on the desktop.

Is it still safe to restart?

Welp, I tried restarting and after about 10 mins. of the little circle thing on the desktop, I held the power button and restarted. It recognized my 'Pod after that and now everything's fine. (I hope)
