memory munchers
after starting up a few intense memory driven apps like photoshop and then quitting my ram memory meter in the dock (provided by activity monitor) shows that my gig of ram is almost all used up. if i log out and then back in it's where it should be. is there a quick fix for this...applescript?

Unless this is actually causing you error messages or severe performance problems, I would vote this probably isn't a big deal. This used to really bother me too until I noticed that it didn't really affect my system as much as the numbers would suggest.
Have faith in UNIX's master ability to allocate system resources as needed. |

universe unfolding as it should
I echo the previous two posters but with a bit more detail. OS X uses your RAM for lots of things other than merely memory space for applications. It caches reently used disk files in RAM so that they are fast to access if used again. You may notice this in the spped of application launching - the second launch is often a far bit faster than the first. OS X considers that unised RAM is wasted RAM, so it actually tries to keep as much of the RAM in use for various caches/buffers at all times. So don't worry about it. |

found answer to problem from another site
I had to delete the login window plist files. in activity monitor they were going spastic. Ram now seems to be better managed by the system.
