Manually sync iDisk in Panther??

I am running Panther and if I check manually update or automatically update my idisk (from the .mac sys pref) it WON'T SYNC!!!

If automatic is selected it will randomly sync when it wants to. If manual is selected I have no clue how to manually sync. (i thought you clicked the little cirlce arrows in the side panel of the window).

Am I just doing something wrong?

One trick

My syncs keep failing, and I don't know why. The logs mention an "err -50", but I don't know what that is. I was able to at least copy the files directly using the Terminal. You need to use Terminal because Finder hides the "real" iDisk from you.

In terminal, do a df and you'll see that there are two iDisk partitions - /Volumes/username is your local copy, and idisk.mac.com/username is your remote iDisk. Since they're both mounted on your system, you can just use cp to put stuff on your iDisk. I don't know how much this messes up syncing, but I just wanted to get some files to my website.

well, i finally got manual sync working. my problem was that the setting kept changing itself to automatic, so there was no way to manually sync.

after repeatedly turning off and on the 'keep a local copy of your iDisk' setting in the .Mac PrefPane, i finally got the setting to stop reverting to automatic sync and stick to manual sync. now i have the proper circle arrows in the iDisk sidebar icon, and the choice to manually sync in the iDisk contextual menu.

it was annoying that it was so difficult to get the proper setting to stick, but now that it's working, it works well and is very cool, slick, and useful.

if you turn off the "keep a local copy of your iDisk" setting, the Finder will show you the 'real' iDisk, just like in Jaguar.

By using the script of this hint:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...30603220554690
I see that error -50 means "error in user parameter list"
- not that that helps you much.

Since 'cp' does not copy resource forks, this won't work if any of the files you are copying have resource forks. So beware.
