Here in India, the Internet provider is notoriously unreliable. The connection drops out a few times a day. When this happens, for some reason the modem does not restart when the line comes back up ( i have changed modems but the problem still persists ). Each time i have to do a hard restart of the modem.
This is very inconvenient for when i am up or down loading files. I tend to run different apps in different spaces, and therefore i am not aware of the break, unless i happen to check the modem running lights or try to open a web page. Is there any way that i can get a notification on the mac desktop, to let me know when the connection breaks. Is there an application, which would be aware of the modem status, that i could run through Growl maybe ? It seems a long shot, but anything would help !!! i cant believe that ive been running with this problem for years & have only just posted this question. ![]() Any suggestions would be most gratefully accepted. |

I was thinking of a Growl-like approach with GeekTool, but in my testing to make certain I could offer a complete solution I found HardwareGrowler, an inexpensive option from the Mac App Store that looks like it will do what you want.

Proper credit goes to the last two commenters in this hint from the main site. Glad it worked out for you.
