Back again.
Okay, everything was going fine until I tried to start XDarwin/KDE like I normally do. Now, I'm getting the message that there is "no write access to /Users/mslater/.ICEauthority" I'm not that familliar with the file, or chmod for that matter, so what is the command to set the proper permissions on this file? Thanks.

I'm not familiar either with that file, and I use X11/KDE if that makes any difference. But I checked and I got
-rw------- 1 mint staff 199 Aug 30 20:30 .ICEauthority To get that kind of permission type chmod 600 Users/mslater/.ICEauthority Hope it works |

Well, it kinda worked. I got the permissions that you have now, but I still can't write to the file when starting KDE.

chown
Hi,
I am using Redhat9, and had exactly the same problem. It *seems* to be fixed after I did $su $chown user -R /home/user "user" being the user you can't log into hope it helps
