Hi,
We keep getting a lot of junk email. Just wondering if anyone knows of any good software to prevent this. We have Norton and the security setting is on the highest on the email filter. Thanks G

I dont get a lot of junk mail on my main account but the OSX Mail app is susposed to be really good. When I first set it up it tried blocking all mail from the hotmail/yahoo style senders. I'm sure to could define some rules within it.
What application are you using at the moment? |

I get over 100 junk mails a day, and mail.app catches about 99% of them... Maybe a higher percentage than that.

I have not used entourage myself but in outlook the only way I found was to set up rules to move the junk straight to the trash. Or pay out for a seperate service like spam assasin that will cost a lot and not catch all of them

I have found that the junk filters in the new Eudora 6 betas have been very good. A few others have not had such success, but with a bit of training and tweaking of the settings, they should be as good as anything else.

After training Mail.app, you should turn it on - if I remember correctly.
I use Eudora 6, it works well for catching jumk. |

I find Eudora 6 catches 99 percent of the junk and 10% of my non-junk too.
I found the latter more of a problem than the spam as most is put in the spam box. I had to tell it to whitelist anyone in my address book and add to the address book places to which I never send mail but from which I do accept mail-- the New York Times for example. Every couple months I get many mail daemon or postmaster spam that does get through to the in box and it's clear that a spammer used my return address for evil things, but after a few hours it stops for months. Comcast (my isp) has a spam alert that seems to be unteachable-- every month it marks a certain piece of mail --by inserting annoying text -- as probable spam-- despite my having told Comcast Tech support to bless this sender who uses all caps and does other things it looks for. |

We had a spam filter at the isp end and the thing never worked right. Try and try to configure it and nothing, isp had a go and nothing worked. Still got all the junk but this time it was just labelled 'this could be junk'
Still not heard from my friend in Africa who had a client with $5,000,000 who needed me to transfer the money to my account for legal reasons. Must try and get hold of hime and see what happened? |

As an FYI..
The new Eudora beta (came out yesterday) has ugly icons and no longer helps with junk mail unless you are using it in paid mode. Jacques |

I'm using Entourage and a product called SpamSieve is doing a great job on my junk mail:
http://www.c-command.com/spamsieve/ It took me a while to set it up exactly the way I want, but it does work well. |
