minicom dial up issues - device busy
I need to connect to an old school modem dial up network. I tried to use Zterm. It said it was connected but there is no activity and it won't take keyboard input.
So, now I'm trying minicom via macports. I've got it installed. The problem is that it won't access my zoom usb modem. ls /dev/tty* gives me: /dev/tty /dev/ttyse /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem /dev/ttysf /dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync /dev/ttyt0 /dev/tty.usbmodem0000001 /dev/ttyt1 /dev/ttyp0 /dev/ttyt2 /dev/ttyp1 /dev/ttyt3 /dev/ttyp2 /dev/ttyt4 /dev/ttyp3 /dev/ttyt5 /dev/ttyp4 /dev/ttyt6 /dev/ttyp5 /dev/ttyt7 /dev/ttyp6 /dev/ttyt8 /dev/ttyp7 ..... I've tried using both "/dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem" and "/dev/tty.usbmodem0000001" but each time it gives an error such as: minicom: cannot open /dev/tty.usbmodem0000001: Resource busy Any suggestions? |

Some progress. I had to go into into print & fax preferences and disable the fax receive feature. It seems this service had latched onto the modem and would not let it go. Kind of lame. This is one of the few times I've really wished I had a windows machine. Hyperterm works really well.
At least this cleared up the issue with using zterm. I may still have to use minicom as I'm still getting some issues with uploaded files. |

From the lack of responses, I'm guessing the folks on this forum aren't into kicking it old skool at 28k!
I was able to use minicom as well, almost. It worked fine for downloading, but the file uploads just aren't happening. It just "bonks" at me when I hit enter to send the file. I thought I would include this info just in case someone else has a similar issue. |

Again, just for someone's future reference....
The file uploads appeared to be working. I was getting "transfer completed" messages, but I noticed a discrepancy between the number of bytes sent, and the total file size. Turns out the file was only being partially sent. I don't know why. Given that the problem was occurring using zmodem, I opted for xmodem instead. The transfer was much slower, of course, but it actually completed, so I'm cool with that. Just an FYI if anyone has truncated file transfers using zterm and zmodem. Still have not got minicom to send files yet. |
