Safari

Has anyone else test-flown the new Apple browser? I've been using it for a couple weeks (since the 10.2 upgrade), and am in general pleased. Safari seems faster than IE 5.2, especially noticeable because I'm still working over dialup. Haven't run into any difficulties rendering pages or objects yet, but I also don't have that many hours on the clock yet, so perhaps I'll find some eventually. Meanwhile, Safari stays as my default browser.

Anyone with more time on the browser run into problems?

Safari's a great little browser. I don't use it--I use Camino--but it's still great to have on the Mac.

Three things I can't stand about Safari:

1. You can't config the toolbar. (You can add items, but you can't re-order them. Not a HUGE deal, I know.)

2. You can't configure many preferences. (This sucks in Camino, too, since there aren't a TON of GUI preference controls, and you're left to edit a text file to alter deep preference commands.)

3. Safari, being a Cocoa brushed metal app, suffers from a REALLY stupid UI bug/change that you have to check out to see:

A. Create a new Safari window.

B. Switch to any other program and attempt to close that Safari window in the background, without switching to Safari first.

Safari will switch to the front (as will iChat, etc.). This REALLY sucks once you've gotten used to how straight-up Aqua does things (you can close any window in the background without switching to that app). It's an awesome way to do things, and Apple's hosed it.

If you have multiple Safari windows open, and you're in Safari, try closing a background Safari window. The window will close, but like in XP, it'll flash to the front for a split-second. Annoying, and isn't instantaneous like in straight-up Aqua.

:-(

Rant off. Safari's still a good browser in my book.

I've been using Safari since Apple officially released the beta and have taken each update that was offered to date. I now use it exclusively, although I still have IE in my applications folder because my bank doesn't recognize Safari (yet). I've found it to be very reliable and quick to load; I've no complaints (yet)!
