Booting macbook air from CCC

im am not sure which section to put this in - please move if ive got it wrong.

i am thinking of trading in my MBPro 17" for a 13 " MB Air as i no longer need the power or screen size of the pro & want something much lighter & smaller to carry around with me.

if i use carbon copy cloner to make a complete backup of my 2011 Macbook pro (lion installed) - will i be able to boot a 2011 macbook air from it? i ask this because i have Disk Warrior installed on the 17" ( and this will also be on the ccc clone ) i know i shant be able to boot from the DW disk in the MB Air which has not disk facility. i do not wish to buy a separate burner at the moment. my concern is that a clone made on the MBPro will not boot a MB Air. does anyone have any idea if this will work.

may not work as the air is a more recent manufacture - try it before you erase the MBP

if you just want to boot from an alternative disk make a usb boot drive with lion on it ($Mb should be sufficient - instructions in these forums

Just try it - connect the two machines together with a thunderbolt cable (usb does NOT work, ethernet does NOT work, and your Air doesn't have a firewire port) and boot the MBP in target disk mode. Boot the Air with the option key, select the MBP drive and see if it works.

I would install Lion on the MBA and then use migration assistant to move over your data to the Air.

thanks appleman_design - thats a better idea. that will copy disk warrior onto the MBA from the MBPro. then i can use ccc to make a bootable system of the MBA on an ext disk which will include Disk Warrior, enabling me to DW the MBA afterwards.
