Installing Driver Package?
An update to the Acard ATA-133 Raid card consists of two packages, a read-me file and no installer. The Read-me file indicates that to update the extensions, all that needs to be done is to copy the kext files to the proper location while logged in as root.
In examining the package contents, I noticed that there are plists, resources and package info items. Is there a way I can install these packages complete, rather than simply extracting the kext files and copying them? It seems like the complete package would be a better installation in regards to the information it provides in the plist. Thanks in advance. Marty |

the readme refers to two .kext files, but the two packages have hidden extensions.
show info on the packages ACard62xxM & ACard68xxM and under ( Name & Extension ) uncheck [x] Hide Extension. now, they are named as they should be, and as the readme refers to them. i would follow the readme's directions explicitely. they are packages and need to be placed in the filesystem as packages. the packaged ACardXXX.kext contain those files you mentioned. do not extract files from the package. did the hidden extensions lead you to exploring the package contents and to your question? -- Is there a way I can install these packages complete...? -- you should copy the package complete. you could do this in the terminal app using the sudo command. does that help? |

Thanks mervTormel!
I've got to remember about OS X's ability to show/hide extensions! I knew that what ACard supplied in the update were two packages and a read-me, but what I didn't realize was that the kext "files" I was looking at in the System/Library/Extensions were actually packages (bundles). So when the read-me file indicated that I should simply copy over the kext "files", I thought that they meant to pull these items out of the package. That just didn't seem right to me, hence the question. I went to terminal, sudo cp -r and now I'm done. It rebooted just fine and now I know more than I did 24 hours ago. Thanks for boosting my IQ! |
