quicktime stopped playing sound

I read here in an answer to the similar problem that you should go to Audio Midi Setup and change something in Audio Output, but in my case it says output is not supported. How did this happen? What can I do?

What content are you trying to play (avi, mov etc ) and what interface are you outputting to ? ie. computer speakers, audio out or a third party interface.

System prefereneces > Sound > Output > choose "built in output"
