Problem printing to network printer

My system:
iMac 24"
OS 10.6.2
RAM 2GB
network printer: HP Lasterjet 4050TN
driver: see attached

Wife's system
Desktop PC (no brand)
OS XP Pro all up to date
RAM 1GB
driver: HP Lasterjet 4050TN driver for WinXP

Both computers are using an Ethernet cable for network connection. No wireless.

Up until now, I have had no issues printing to my network printer from either my Mac or my wife's PC. Now when I print from my Mac, the following error comes up (see attached).

What should I do? I checked the printer's Ethernet cable and everything is fine.

Problem solved

When I printed a printer configuration page from the printer, I noticed that the IP address had changed from 192.168.2.14 to 192.168.2.19. After I updated these settings on the computers, everything is fine now.

since I assume you are using an IP based printing system (which works quite well with certain setups).

The printer should have a static IP address assigned to it so that it's IP address never changes. You computers are (most likely) configured to connect via DHCP, and while this will work for the printer, it's IP address will change.

Generally its good practice to set static IP's on things like servers, printers, and anything else which will be hit with a lot of remote access services.

Thanks!!

I thought I had set a static IP address when I set up the printers on both computers. I usually do this because as you mention, the address can change.
