Snow Leopard OD and Linux Clients or CentOS

Greetings

I am trying to connect a CentOS Web Server's user authentication to our existing Open Directory on Snow Leopard(10.6) via LDAP and am running into a whole bunch of issues, not the least of which is the

Failed to bind to LDAP server ... : Invalid credentials

I've tried putting in the credentials in the CentOS config using the diradmin user
i.e. cn=diradmin, dc=delta, dc=local with the correct password.

but to no avail

The end goal is to be able to offer a simple content management system on the CentOS box with users logging in to their stuff being authenticated on the back by the LDAP connection to our OD OSX server.

What things should I be looking for???

OD server
macmaster.delta.local
search base = dc=macmaster, dc=delta, dc=local
DNS is setup to resolve macmaster fine.

CentOS server
intranet.delta.local
box can see the OD master on the network and resolve correctly
it connects on the right port
Just gets invalid credentials...and I'm thinking that the search base or some such config is messed up on the CentOS server?

ALL that being said are their articles on the web somewhere that will enlighten me on how to do this? Linux client to and OD Snow Leopard server?

Thanks and sorry for the newbness here...!
