Checking Ink levels on Brother MFC-240C

How do i do it? I went to printer properties and clicked supply levels but it just said "information not available". how do i fix this?

Is your printer connected directly to your Mac through USB?
There's a recent (March 2009) driver update at the Brother web site, which I suppose would include the brother printer utility that allows access to the printer info.
