what is boot.efi

Does anyone know what the /machd/system/library/coreservices/boot.efi file does exactly?

I am trying to find a way to fix my non booting drive mentioned in another thread and figured I might try and copy this file from my clone back up. However, I have no idea if this actually would fix anything. Any ideas?

Related question. How in the world do I copy that file to a new spot? I have tried a few things from terminal and so far none has worked. Locked file.

There's some information about boot.efi at this Apple reference page, and also in the manual page for bless.

back up data, and wipe and reload is the best practice. If you are using something like CCC I believe it just does a block for block copy, so it should copy everything.
