Email drafts on iPhone aren't saved

Hello. Like most I do a lot of emailing on my iPhone but I just recently noticed two problems with drafts:
1 if I create a new email and click on cancel and then click on save, how can I later recover that local draft and continue workin on it?
2 I have gmail setup with my iPhone mail app and I have attempted to open a remote draft (saved in the gmail drafts folder online) and modify it. After I click cancel and save, if I open that draft again my changes are lost, how can I make it so I can open gmail drafts and modify them from the mail app?
Thanks

did you look in the "Drafts" folder of the email account in which you were composing for the saved draft?

It works for me: here's a draft saved in my gmail account folder from the phone. My google mail is set up on the iPhone as an Exchange Account. I opened the draft and continued editing and then sent it without a problem.

I also saved a draft then edited and sent it from an IMAP account.

Note that the "Drafts" folder (for the iPhone drafts) may not appear until you cancel composing an email on the iPhone and subsequently save it. Drafts saved in gmail's draft folder from gmail online are not editable on the iPhone and will be in a folder also labeled "Drafts" but it has a grey folder icon next to it instead of the icon next to the iPhone's draft folder. The iPhone's draft folder icon looks like a piece of paper with one corner folded down. See the attached picture for details.

Google's drafts aren't editable on the iPhone because of the way Google uses folders, but you can open the draft from Google's draft folder and copy the text out and paste it into a new message on the iPhone if necessary.

If you manually setup gmail as IMAP on the iPhone you can go into:
Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->YourGmailAccount->Advanced->Drafts Mailbox
and choose Drafts from "On the Server" (that might work, mine is setup as an Exchange account so I can't try it)

Otherwise, file a bug report feature suggestion with google.
