Do you mean music or other types of files?

Does one of the typical utilities let you do what you need?
Senuti

ipod.itunes

There's a couple of other good ones that I can't remember.

" ... make it behave."
How is your iPod misbehaving now?

I do mean ripping both music files and other be able to move other types of files back and forth.

Thanks.

A side note, today, I wanted to rip some songs off my ipod touch burn them on a blank cd so that I coul play them in my car,
my i pod touch refused to let me move my own paid songs on my mac to my computer and be burned (of course after I went through the trouble of making a playlist in itunes, because macs are so controlling they allow no other way to do it intuitively.
While windows did suck, I never have problems, moving files to and fro device to device and bring media :-<

Its the fact that Apple has to "play nice" with the record companies. The first iPod could drag and drop to move files back and forth.

FWIW, I keep all my music in iTunes on my laptop and sync it with my iPod, so I keep control of the files. It also means I have my music in two places all the time, in case my iPod or laptop goes. To get music off an iPod, I used Podworks, which can grab all the files and playlists and send it all straight to iTunes.

Historically, the iPod has always been [intended as] a music playback device... not a music storage device. If someone wants "behavior" which allows transporting and sharing (easy physical access) to music files... an iPod is not the proper device. Use a flash drive or some other removable storage.

Don't you have all your iPod songs in iTunes on your computer, too?
That would be a simpler place to burn off a playlist CD, I would think....

I'm new to both Ipod Touch and the computer.
I see a little blue dot to the left of the song title in the list (on ITunes...computer) a few have no dot and some have a half filled dot. What does this mean.

I connect my Ipod to the computer (Via cable) and it says it is "sync-ing" but when it says it is finished I don't have any music on my Ipod Touch. How do I get the music...some of which I have purchased from ITunes and some of my own music....but how to I get it from the computer to the IPod? Simply connecting doesn't do it.
Thanks
