Garageband 09 Noise issue

Hey guys, im using garageband 09 with a real guitar and am getting some noise. I googled the issue and it said that i should look for some noise gate which is supposed to be in the track info window. However, i cant seem to find a track info window, only a track info pane which doesnt seem to contain the options for a noise gate. Does anyone know where to find it?

Thanks

First, a gate would be patching the symptom without treating the problem. A gate will introduce an odd effect (mostly to the tails as a guitar sound fades out) of it's own and I don't really think it's a good solution to your problem.

Really, you should fix the source of the noise so that it never goes into your computer, not try to clean it up after the fact, especially not with a gate. That said, here are the directions to use a gate with Garageband: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2930

It is in the track info pane.

But why are you getting the noise? A guitar shop with a good luthier should be able to fix the noise problem in your guitar.

As for the noise source, i suspect it to be how ive connected my guitar to my mac. Ive used a 1/4inch to 3.8mm jack converter thats kinda cheap, so i suspect thats where my noise is coming from. My guitar is fine when i plug it into an amp - no noise at all (atleast not any that can be easily heard).

About the noise gate, i still cant find it. Ill upload a screenshot and then can someone tell me where it is? I must be blind or something, but i seriously cannot find it.

I agree that your theory sounds like the likely explanation for the noise. So get a better cable, one that goes directly from quarter inch to eighth inch (what you are calling 3.8mm) without an adapter.
