Apple Mail Address Book Export

First posting, so bare with me . . .

I have a G4 Powermac running 10.2.4) at home that has all my e-mail addresses on it (I use Mail ver. 1.2.3 ) and I recently got my hands on an I-Book (running 10.2.4) , to which I would like to transfer all of my e-mail addresses over to.

I have the proper firewire cable to allow me to mount my I-Book on the desktop of my G4 but the problem is that I don't seem to be able to copy my address book over.

Where does the address book reside and how do I copy it over?

Your address book in 10.2.4 should be in your applications folder. I haven't tried to transfer the address book but you might try dragging it to the appications folder on the ibook, or copying the address book and then pasting into the ibook. Hope this is helpful.

i think cghardie wants to target the address book data files rather than the application.

here are the germane files/directory:

You don't want to copy over your Address Book (AB) app. It's already on your iBook.

Just copy to the Desktop of your G4 the two .plist files Merv located for you. Use the export command on your G4's AB app (under its File menu) to put on that Desktop a multiple vCard of all names in your G4's AB. (You have to first highlight all the names in your G4 AB to export the multiple vCard.) Then when your iBook mounts on your G4, drag these three files to your iBook's Desktop.

To get the two preference (.plist) files into your AB on your iBook, quit the AB there and go the locations there already specified and drag out the old .plist files and drag in the ones copied from your G4.

Afterwards, on your iBook, you can use its AB import command to get the G4 data from the multiple vCard into your iBook AB. (That command is under the AB File menu; choose the VCards option there.)

In case the import command fails to work on the iBook, you can just drag the multiple vCard into the groups column of your opened AB app on your iBook
