Slowness with volume mounted

g5 Dual 2ghz
3 gig ram
10.4.11

we manage about 500 mac some machines are experiencing slowness when server volumes are mounted. when the volume is unmounted the slowness goes away.
the problem seemed to happen when we updated the operating system with latest updates for 10.4.11.

any advice would be much appreciated.

thank you

Why would you need AppleTalk turned on? You can connect to AFP shares without AppleTalk being on.

Is the specs you give for all 500 of the Macs, or for the Mac serving?
