itunes encoding problem

hi

i suddenly have got a problem with itunes 2.0.3 encoding a cd... it will encode a half a song - then stops and waits 10 secs before the rainbow wheel of death comes along...
the only way out is a force quit - yet the finder won´t do anything after that - so it really only is a reboot that helps... superannyoing... i tried to go to single user mode and did an fsck -y even though it repaired a few things, it still keeps happening...

any clues on how to get rid of this annoying problem??
