no more quick view & Quicktime 7 crush

all of a sudden, after a restart, I noticed that I can no longer quick view any avi file, my Perian is installed so it isn't that. later I realized that it is probably because something that also causing quick time 7.6.6 to crush on every start. There is a crush log but I have no idea how to read it and how to get to the source of the problem from it.
also it works fine on a clean fresh user.

Then you know that the problem is somewhere inside your user account. The problem is clearly related QuickTime, or something interacting with it. Do you have any third-party software in Login Items, which might interact with QT?

It may simply be some corrupted preferences or caches.

If you can copy and paste the crash log, you could post it here, and someone could have a look at it.

It was already late when I checked again but it wasn't working "FINE"! it was better, QT didn't crush when I was using root user but the quick look still didn't work. Based on that I assumption I spotlighted quicktime and deleted every plst file i could find in my user folder. didn't work. i attached the cruces log

File Type: txt crush log qt.txt (53.1 KB, 17 views)

Looks like Flip4Mac Windows media Video plugin is crashing QT.
Just try and remove it from Quicktime plugins

/Library/QuickTime/Flip4Mac WMV Import.component/Contents/MacOS/Flip4Mac WMV Import

The root user is a special case. I'm sure you've been told this before, but just in case, you should not normally need to use the root user. You should disable it, which is how it is by default.

you were correct, thanks.
I deleted all three components Import+Export+Advanced
it seems that both import and advanced were responsible (removed all three and then reintroduced them one by one and both caused a crush)
how did you find out?

if I delete only /Library/QuickTime/Flip4Mac WMV Import.component/Contents/MacOS/Flip4Mac WMV Import and not all the component would I still be able to watch and export wmvs?

Import allows you to read WMV but your plugin is not compatible with Lion as out of date and i don't think they are making a Lion/ML version.
You have to use their Flip Player now as far as i can see.

Crash Report made it obvious what was causing issues.

Thanks. the problem is solved
no more flip 4 mac for me LOL
I myself use movist (available on appstore) that can play any kind of video filetype as vlc with amazing subtitles support as well as a very nice full screen navigation similar to front row (rip).
