Dissable application update notifications

How can I dissable, or at least extend the ignore time, for promts to install updates? The notification center is constantly pestering me to update. If I dismiss the notification (either by two finger swiping it away or by opening and then quiting App store it just comes back a couple of minutes later.

I want to be able to delay the request for at least a few days (preferably for longer). I tend to install the updates on my own, when it is convienient, not when I am in the middle of doing something.

Also, can I permanantly disable updates for iTunes? I spent over an hour to get back to version 10 and I really do not want to install v11 again by mistake.

I have mountain lion.

Thanks

Uncheck the box in the General section of the iTunes preferences named 'Check for new updates automatically'.

Ive had a notification in the side section for 4 days now telling me there are Updates Available. I haven't bothered to do anything about it, as its for 2 apps im not using at the moment. I haven't however had any pop ups reminding me of it, so not sure why you are being constantly bugged.

Why not just run the updates overnight while you arent using the machine ? That would solve the problem of it interfering with your workload.

Check out this article in OSXDaily if you want to bypass the App Store. http://osxdaily.com/2012/09/14/updat...the-app-store/

That box in iTunes prefrences is already unchecked, but it still tries to update.

I can not just ignore it because a message from the notification center keeps covering my screen. And installing won't do any good, because I definetely do not want to install all of the updates.

That tutorial just shows how to install updates without the app store. The point was that I do not WANT to install the updates at all.

The iTunes pref doesn't help with your question.
You can turn off the update notification. Go to your System Preferences and then to Software Update... UNCHECK THAT BOX for Automatically check for updates. That banner will leave you alone now! And, you can always check manually for updates, when you feel the need (and when you have time for the updates)
My only suggestion, is that you should not simply ignore updates, particularly those that are designed to upgrade the system security. (I'm talking about you!)

If prompts are coming from Notification Center, then open System Preferences, click on Notifications, then configure what each application is allowed to show you.

I agree. System updates (to OS X) and updates to applications that get information over the Internet (e.g. Safari, iTunes) should NOT be considered optional. It is important that you keep up to date with all OS or application updates that have security fixes.
