Arrow internal DVDR drive for 2x2GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

Well my system is definitely ancient. My Pioneer DVDR 116 internal drive died and is an IDE drive and now all that are being sold are SATA drives. Is there a way to install a SATA drive into my unit using the internal bay or am I screwed with using an external. I'd really like to be able to install the drive in the internal bay. Thanks for any and all constructive suggestions.

I think you're mistaken about IDE. This is an early Mac Pro (circa 2006-2008), right?

MacTracker says this for the MacPro1,1:

Optical Drive Interface
2 - Ultra ATA/100, 2 - 3.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)

OWC is one of many sources for an inexpensive replacement: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optic...s/superdrives/ (Scroll down and choose your Mac to see options.)

FWIW, I note that internal IDE drives are also still readily available.

macosnoob is not quite accurate.
The first couple of MacPro models came standard with PATA (IDE) optical drives.
SATA is "available" on the logic board, and only needs running a couple of cables for power and the SATA data cable - but original equip was a PATA optical drive.
And, IDE drives are readily available (but there's fewer sources now)
