Run functionality with the Enter button in OS X
Hello
You know in Windows when you select a file if you press the Enter button, that file is run (a document gets opened, an app gets executed). Is there a way to get such a functionality in OS X? I 'm tired of having to double click the mouse to open a file. Thanks.

You probably could with third-party software, but you'd likely run into issues with other Finder functions which use the Return key. Do you know that Command-[Down Arrow] will open the selected file/folder?
Edit: Command-O also works. |

This issue has been raised frequently in lengthy, heated threads across the entire internet.
The argument can be broadly summarised as: Party of the first part: OS X uses <Command> O in all apps to open files, and the same is true in the Finder. There's also <command> <down arrow> which does the same thing. <Return> is used to perform some action on an object, and in the case of the Finder, it allows renaming of the file. OS X is quite inflexible in its core consistencies, and this is something that you will have to get used to. Party of the second part: I'm used to using <return> in Windows and will tolerate no other keystrokes to achieve my goal. Last edited by benwiggy; 02-15-2013 at 04:56 AM. |

Hello
Thank you for the comments. Both cmd-down arrow and cmd-O work, that's fine! benwiggy, of course I'm willing to use my Mac so I will tolerate this keystroke, of course The only problem was having to double click the mouse and me not knowing how to make it on keyboard.
